Safety in the laboratory is of the utmost importance. Work carried out within a laboratory will often involve the use of chemicals and/or equipment which is potentially harmful to yourself or those working around you, therefore, proper training is required. Most laboratories will have an explicit standard operating procedure (SOP) associated with a particular test, piece of equipment etc. Most companies will have safety training unique to their site which will be mandatory for all employees.
