Introduction to SIFT-MS

Selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) is a direct mass spectrometry (DMS) technique that provides high sensitivity analysis in real-time by eliminating chromatography and applying highly controlled soft chemical ionization. This module introduces SIFT-MS, describes when it is appropriate to utilize SIFT-MS to complement chromatographic analyses (and the practicality of doing so), and illustrates the types of data that are generated by SIFT-MS instruments.

Topics include:

  • Why and when to use SIFT-MS
  • Introduction to SIFT-MS and its history
  • Practical application of SIFT-MS in the lab
  • Comparison of SIFT-MS with chromatography
