CHROMtalks - How Better Sample Preparation Reduces the Need for Troubleshooting in the First Place

MS instruments are very sophisticated and expensive, and they must be maintained by experienced operators and/or service engineers to achieve optimal performance. Injection of dirty samples or simply too much material can cause major problems, especially in routine analysis. The best way to maintain a clean system is to inject clean samples in the first place! The “just-enough cleanup” provided by dispersive-solid-phase extraction (d-SPE) in QuEChERS is no longer good enough, and it is much better to use QuEChERSER with mini-column µ-SPE cleanup prior to analyses by GC–MS techniques. Examples of exceptional cleanup in comparison to QuEChERS will be presented.

Topics include:

  • Importance of maintaining clean GC–MS systems
  • Risks of injecting dirty or overloaded samples
  • Limitations of traditional QuEChERS d-SPE cleanup
  • Advantages of QuEChERSER with mini-column µ-SPE
  • Enhancing system performance and longevity
  • Comparative results: QuEChERS vs. QuEChERSER cleanup
  • Real-world application examples demonstrating improved sample preparation
