Fully vs. Superficially Porous Columns: Pros, Cons, and Best Applications

Thursday, September 17, 2026
8am PDT | 11am EDT | 4pm BST | 5pm CEST

Chromatographers have the choice of columns packed with fully porous particles or superficially porous particles. Since their commercial introduction in 2006, superficially porous particles (SPP), also known as core-shell particles, have emerged as a compelling alternative, offering high efficiency with lower operating pressures. How exactly do these 2 particle technologies compare?

In this webcast, we compare fully porous and superficially porous particle technologies, examining the strengths and limitations of each and their role in modern liquid chromatography. Through theory and practical application examples, you'll gain the knowledge to understand the benefits of SPP column technology for your analytical challenges.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the principles of fully porous and superficially porous particle technologies
  • Comparing the chromatographic performance of FPP and SPP columns across a range of applications
  • Leveraging the analytical throughput, separation efficiency, and ease of operation offered by SPP technology

Speaker

Dr Stephanie Schuster (Senior Application Scientist, Advanced Materials Technology)

Dr. Schuster earned her Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Joe P. Foley at Drexel University. She joined Advanced Materials Technology, Inc. (AMT) in June 2009 as a research scientist working with Dr. Jack Kirkland, contributing to the commercial development of products for peptide and protein separations. Most recently, as part of the Technical Support team at AMT, Stephanie has been providing customer support in optimizing and troubleshooting their applications.
